The largest city is the capital, Zagreb (pop. 779,145) followed by Split (pop. 188,694) as the center of south Croatia, Rijeka (pop. 144,043) on the north of Croatia Adriatic and Osijek (pop. 114,616) as the center of eastern Croatia.

The climate in Croatia is Mediterranean on the coast and continental inland with semi highland and highland climate in central Croatia. Temperatures in continental Croatia average around 10°C , while average temperatures on the coastal areas of Croatia are around 15°C . During the summer months, temperatures along the coast are often in excess of 30°C . Summer temperatures range from 22 to 26°C in the continental region, 15 to 20°C in the mountain region and 26 to 30°C in the coastal region. This makes Adriatic coast of Croatia great summer holiday destination.
